Professorship Eibach

The chair focuses on the transformation processes in the 18th and 19th centuries from a European perspective. The research, however, especially in the thematic focal points of the history of home and family ('the domestic sphere') and the history of crime (interpersonal violence), includes the long period from the era of the Reformation to the beginning of the 20th century.

Further intersections in research as well as in teaching are the political history of the era of transmission (der Sattelzeit) between ca. 1780 and 1850 and the work of the Prussian ‘citizen of the world’ and scientist Alexander von Humboldt. Last but not least, the holder and the staff of the chair have the ambition to continuously discuss current theoretical-conceptual questions of historical science and to convey their meaning to ambitious students. In research as well as in daily interaction, an actor-oriented, i.e. human, approach is preferred - in the tradition of Humboldt.

Because in the end:
«Theoretically, intellect is relative!»
