The research examines the premodern knowledge society and addresses current questions of equal opportunity, social mobility, and professionalisation. It analyses the circulation of knowledge, networks, and careers in both regional and European contexts.

International Research Project

Comparing Episcopal Lordship

The SNSF/DFG project comparatively examines the secular administration of ecclesiastical principalities (1440–1520). It investigates whether these administrations functioned as interfaces within late medieval society and whether they served as pioneers of legally shaped, innovative administrative structures.

Das Projekt untersucht Städte als Produzenten, Organisatoren und Vermittler militärischer Kultur im spätmittelalterlichen Europa. Es analysiert, wie Städte militärische Techniken prägten und von ihnen beeinflusst wurden, an der Schnittstelle von Recht, Politik, Waffenbesitz und -nutzung.
