The Digital History research cluster at the University of Bern's History Department examines the impact of digitisation on historical research. The cluster regularly organises meetings to present the department's digital projects and discuss relevant topics. These topics include the development and application of digital methods and technologies, the use of digital resources and tools for working with historical sourcesas well as the collection and evaluation of research data. The use of artificial intelligence methods and tools play a major role in the cluster. The focus here lies on the strategic integration of artificial intelligence methods and tools into the classical methods of historical research.

Another central concern of the cluster is the development of teaching formats for digital skills that prepare students and researchers for current and future requirements of digitisation. In this context, strategies for publishing and disseminating research results are also discussed in order to promote the transfer of knowledge to the general public. This is crucial to making Digital History more visible not only within academia, but also in society and in schools.

In addition, the cluster addresses questions of digital archiving as well as the ethical implications and challenges associated with the use of digital methods in historical research.
