After completing her MA in contemporary history at the University of Lausanne, with a special focus on the Swiss new women’s movement, Sarah Kiani studied film making in Paris in 2009. In 2011 she completed an MA in Visual Anthropology at the Freie Universität (Berlin). Currently she is working for her PhD thesis in the framework of Dr. Kristina Schulz’s project in contemporary history “Soziale Bewegung in Politik und Gesellschaft : Eine Wirkungsanalyse der Neuen Frauenbewegung (1968-2002)” at the University of Bern. Kiani’s thesis project is twofold. Firstly, it aims at investigating the influence the women’s movement has had on equality legislation in Switzerland. Secondly, it aims at analysing the influence the question of equality has had on the women’s movement structure. The project involves the theories and methods from social movement research, along with oral history and source analysis.
From April 2012, Kiani will be working on a film project on the women’s movement in Switzerland funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF).
